A Movie A Day The Rules

I love movies. I love all kinds of movies, and I try to watch as much as I possibly can while still taking time to indulge in my many other hobbies. When reflecting on my movie-watching habits, I see that I’ll go into long stretches where I just watch old favorites over and over again. As a way to try to get myself to watch more new movies, I came up with the idea to attempt to watch a movie a day throughout an entire year. I’ve attempted to complete this challenge over the last few years, but I’ve failed each time. Regardless, I’m attempting it again, and I’ve decided to write down my own self-imposed rules and guidelines.

A Movie A Day: The Rules

  1. The challenge will be to watch the equivalent of one feature length movie every single day from January 1st to December 31st.
    1. Life happens, and some days will surely be missed. Missed days must be made up on another day so that by the end of 2020, I will have watched at least 366 movies (since 2020 is a leap year).
  2. New movies must be watched at a 2-to-1 ratio (or better) to old ones. For example, in a month with 30 days, at least 20 of those movies must be new.
    1. “New” movies will be considered any movie I have never seen before, whether it’s a movie that has been recently released or one that’s been out for years. “New” means “new to me.” Exceptions might be made for movies I saw many years ago but have little to no memory of.
  3. Movies can be watched in any format. Theater, DVD, Blu-Ray, Streaming, VHS, Betamax, LaserDisc, etc.

That’s it really. I don’t want to make this too cumbersome. If it’s a chore I’ll be even less likely to stick to it.

Follow Along

I’d like to do my best to record my experience, so I’ll be posting some of my thoughts as I go along here on this blog as well as the following social media accounts:

Twitter: https://twitter.com/highspot_437
Letterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/highspot/

I’ll also be continuing to put out reviews and other commentary on some of the movies I’ll be watching over at The Last Theater: http://lasttheater.cnjradio.com/

I don’t know if this will be of interest to anyone except myself, but I thought I’d share anyway. If you’d like to get involved in any way, the best way to reach me is probably through Twitter. I check that most often. Let me know what you think about some of the movies I’m watching, and make some suggestions of things I should watch next!
